Welcome to my ‘lil spot on the internet. My name is Jo!
I started dabbling in Photoshop when I was about 14. Right from the start I loved it. I did all the tutorials on photo manipulation I could find! A few years later a friend introduced me to RedBubble and Society6, and I starting selling my work there. However I never actually considered turning it into a career, it was just a nice bit of pocket money.
After I finished school, I took a makeup course/gap year while I tried to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Turns out it wasn’t makeup. I was also working part time as a manager at a local coffee shop, and while I enjoyed the environment and business side of the work, as an introvert…it wasn’t a long term plan.
One day, a customer mentioned that they were looking for an intern at their graphic design agency. I thought “Hey – I could do this!” and gave them my email address. Realised after they left, that an email address probably wasn’t enough. So, I googled the company, found the ad, and put in an application. And ended up getting the job.
I ended up working there until the end of the year, and throughly enjoyed the work I did. It was an invaluable experience, and I learnt so much. As well as discovering a love for web design, I also discovered that I like Illustrator far more than Photoshop!
I left my job there to pursue working for myself, and well as building the business my then-boyfriend (now husband) had just started. During the December holidays I did a Free Code Camp course to learn basic Front End Development, to further my web design efforts.
Since then, I’ve worked with numerous companies and individuals, and have had amazing experiences building brands, shaping identities, and meeting some pretty awesome people along the way. Starting my own business was one of the most daunting and challenging things I’ve ever faced, but was without a doubt the best decision I ever made.
On this blog, I write about life and its challenges; design and the things that inspire me. I hope you enjoy it.
